Bunclody will play host to round 3 and 4 of the Naylor Engineering National Hillclimb & Sprint Championship on 21st & 22th May. Located near the village of Clohamon, this Hillclimb has all the elements for a superb event. Wexford Motor Club last ran this event in 2006 so this 1.2 mile hill will be a new challenge for many competitors.
There are extra classes added catering for Rally, Historic and Historic saloons as well as Single Seaters and Sports cars. Competitors usually having 4-5 runs up the course each day with entries costing €130 for 1 day and €230 for 2 days. Regulations and further information will be available on shortly on www.wexfordmotorclub.ie
This is a technical hillclimb on a testing stretch of road. A decade ago, the Hillclimb weekend at Bunclody had sun, rain and hail stones; It had a first outright win for Wexford man Peter Dwyer in his Delta T85, a Sunday win for ex-Champion Frank Byrnes in his Reynard, a 2nd Overall for Simon McKinley’s MkII Escort and a guest appearance from David James’ Ford Focus WRC car. John Naylor was COC for this memorable event and he is now the 2016 Naylor Engineering National Hillclimb & Sprint Championship Sponsor. It will be interesting to see if the record of 55.56 seconds withstands the attack of more modern machinery this year.
The stage is set for another successful Wexford event. Clerk of the Course Eddie Byrne informs us that preparations are going well and Wexford Motor Club look forward to greeting competitors on the 21st & 22th May.
