Well it’s that time of year again when covers come off cars and dry cleaners across the country try to beat the race suits back into life.
This year brings a change to the championship with a new sponsor on board for this year in the form of Naylor Engineering; it is great to see John coming on board this year. John Naylor has been a great supporter of Motorsport over the years and we look forward to working with him over the year and maybe he might be persuaded to bring one of his cars out during the year to come.
Wexford Motor Club will host the first two rounds of the championship after last year’s success. This year Brendan Harpur, a regular hillclimber, has been nominated as Clerk of the Course. Brendan has found a new venue this year in Castledockell. The same hill will be used both days which should provide a challenge for all drivers, new and old. Regs for the event will be out by the start of February. With great interest being shown already it looks like it’s going to be a trilling round again, with Sylvie Mullins in his Gould looking to defend his crown and hit the ground running. Sylvie will have a fight on his hands, with the ever quick Simon McKinley in his Lant, hot on his tail. This year could throw up few surprises through as three time champion Paul O Connell will be back to make an attack on the championship. John C Byrne will also be looking to improve on last year’s performance and Dermot Nolan, who is getting to grips with his new car, should both provide a challenge for the championship. Local drivers Peter Boggan in his Escort and Eugene French in his Vee will guarantee that there will be a battle all throughout the field.
We look forward to seeing you in Wexford on the 23th and 24th of March for Round 1 & 2 of the Naylor Engineering Hillclimb and Sprint Championship.
